highworth library

Highworth Town Council supports Highworth Library through purchasing additional hours to ensure the People of Highworth are able to access the wide variety that the library has to offer.

The Library is another major hub in the Town. It is the fourth biggest library in Swindon. As well as its main function it hosts activities including Job Club, children’s craft activities; adult colouring sessions, talks and computer training. It has a permanent exhibition space for Highworth Historical Society as well as display cabinets to promote the work of local artisans.

Highworth Town Council supports Highworth Library by funding two Library & Information Assistants for 15 hours a week each.

From January 2023, Swindon Borough Council’s face to face Customer Services offer will move from its current Wat Tyler building location, out into the community, to be delivered by library staff.

Highworth Library have self-service machines where, with support from library staff, you can access services such as:

• Blue Badges • Waste and recycling • Requesting home repairs

• Parking fines and permits

These services, as well as lots of others, are also available at www.swindon.gov.uk

SCHOOLS

All of our schools perform well and are popular with parents. As well as producing high academic achievement they are delighted to share in community activities. All of them will share space with the community. The secondary school has recently built a new sports hall, dance studio and all – weather pitch, all of which are used by the public during the evenings and week-ends. The school also boasts an impressive Big Band that often performs locally. All of our school are a real asset to the Town.

Non-Fee Off Street Parking Places Consolidation Order 2003 Amendment No.1 2022 - Newburgh Place

STATEMENT OF REASONS
Following the introduction of the School Safe Environment Zone (SSEZ) at Westrop
Primary School on Newburgh Place this order seeks to introduce additional disabled
persons parking bays within the Newburgh Place Non-Fee Off-Street Car Park.
The request is a consequence of the no loading and no waiting at any time on
Newburgh Place introduced as part of the SSEZ.
To address the concerns raised Swindon Borough Council proposes to amend the
Non-Fee Off-Street Parking Places Consolidation Order 2003 to include Newburgh
Place in Schedule 3 for the introduction of Disabled Badge Holders only, Maximum
Stay 1 Hour, No Return in 1 Hour parking bays.
The reason for making this order is as follows;
a. For facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class
of traffic (including pedestrians), or
b. For preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which
the road runs, or
c. to improve the environment for local residents
This request has been delivered in conjunction with local Ward Councillors.
Consultation has been carried out with residents and emergency services and other
relevant stakeholders.
Traffic Management & Road Safety
March 2022

Thames Water - Wessex Way W/c 11th April 2022

We’re going to be installing a new manhole chamber on our surface water sewer in the verge on
Roundhills Mead, in the location highlighted on the mapping below. This work is due to
commence on 11 April.

The work will require traffic management and is expected to take approximately 10 days
to complete.
Following this, we’ll be installing an over pump at this location, which will pump surface water
into the nearby the ditch. We anticipate the over pump will be in situ until the end of June. I’d like
to assure you sound barriers will also be present to ensure minimal disruption.

As you may know, there’s been issues with the manhole cover situated in the road, next to the
verge. On occasion, with rainfall, the pressure of the flows coming through the surface water
sewer, has caused the manhole cover has come off, which is a potential safety hazard. We
know, there are additional flows coming through the surface water network, which have
contributed to this and are being investigated. Therefore, we’re hoping the over-pump will
mitigate the risk of this happening again, whilst we continue with our investigations.
