A big thank you to Swindon Borough Councillor and Highworth Town Councillor Nick Gardiner for organising a fascinating and eye-opening visit to the Waterside Recycling Centre. We were given an insightful behind-the-scenes tour by the dedicated officers on site, with support from Swindon Borough Council Cabinet Member Chris Watts. Their time and knowledge were very much appreciated.

The scale of recycling operations was impressive, but what really stood out was the amount of general waste that is still included within recyclable materials. It’s clear there’s more to be done to help residents recycle better and reduce contamination.

Councillors will be discussing the visit at the next Environment & Leisure Committee meeting in January, and how Highworth Town Council can support Swindon Borough Council to improve recycling rates across our town.
